“Why Institutional Church, Anyway?”
Insight from St. Theoleptos of Philadelphia, a teacher of St. Gregory Palamas
A day retreat led by led by
The Very Rev. Andrew Morbey
Dean of St. Mary’s Cathedral, Minneapolis
It is common to hear others state — and maybe hear ourselves even wondering about being — “spiritual but not religious.” Why should we be in the Church? And be in Church? This is not a new question! Fr. Andrew Morbey, the Dean of St. Mary’s Cathedral in Minneapolis, Minnesota, will take us on a journey exploring the claims of charismatic elders that salvation is not to be found in the institutional church but in a “personal relationship” with an elder who somehow stands apart from it. What would a true mystic, a true elder say about that? Fr. Andrew will introduce us to St. Theoleptos, one of the leading teachers of hesychasm and a “trustworthy visionary of the truth of God’s mysteries” according to St. Gregory Palamas. We look forward to learning, praying, and being with you soon!
